For the Learning Analytics & Knowledge Conference (LAK) in Bergen, Norway we organised a BALAN workshop with Laura Brandl, Matthias Stadler, Michael Sailer and Oleksandra Poquet.
Our workshop, "Strengthening the Use of Learning Theories for Personalization of Learning Analytics," included multiple talks and hands-on design sprints. During these sprints, participants mapped theoretical constructs from psychology and learning sciences to measurable analytics indicators. Furthermore, transparent and ethical workflows for tailoring feedback and learner support were co-developed and idiographic and within-person modeling were discussed as complements to aggregate predictive approaches.
The event sparked engaging conversations around the empirical work and methodological innovations submitted by our participants. We were inspired to see the community unite to build practical, transferable outputs for the field.
